
After leaving Fernand, he kills himself and she ends up loosing everything. When the Count tells her about everything her husband did, she has to decide if she’s going to tell Albert, and when she does, they have to decide if they will stay or leave. After Albert challenged the Count to a duel, she finally has to face him, as Mercedes and not the Countess of Morcref. She doesn't know if she should address the problem or not. Fernand once again pushes her to marry him and 18 months later she does. After meeting the Count of Monte Cristo, she realizes that Edmond isn't dead like she thought. When Edmond is sent to prison she doesn't know what happened to him and has to assume he’s dead. Even though she refuses Fernand over 100 times, she still has to refuse him, which she doesn't like to do. First she has to choose between Edmond and Fernand. Mercedes faces many life changing conflicts. She is proud and intelligent, yet humble at the same time. She has to be like this when Albert challenges the Count to a duel and she has to be him to spare Albert's life, when she decides to tell Albert about his father’s sins, and when they both decide to leave Fernand and their luxurious life in Paris. Towards the end of the book, she is forced to be brave and bolder than she is used to. She is noble, caring, and loving to everyone.

She wasn't happy with her new life but hid it from everybody. She went from being a poor orphan to living a life of luxury.

Shortly after, they moved to Paris and had a son named Albert. Fernand gained military power and they became the Count and Countess of Morcref. 18 months after Edmond was sent to prison she married her friend Fernand Mondego, even though she stilled loved Edmond and knew she always would. After Edmond was taken away, she cared for his father until he died.

Her friend Fernand always pushed her to marry him instead of Edmond, even though she refused every time. Mercedes was madly in love with Edmond Dantes and was once his fiancé. She is known for her beauty and admired by many. She has long dark hair, gray eyes, and tan skin.
